The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is a globally recognised certification in the field of information security. It is offered by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)², and demonstrates an individual’s competence in information security.
To obtain the CISSP certification, candidates must meet specific education and experience requirements and pass a six-hour, 250-question exam that covers topics such as security and risk management, asset security, security engineering, communications and network security, identity and access management, security assessment and testing, security operations, and software development security.
Candidates must also agree to abide by a code of ethics and have their application endorsed by a current CISSP holder.
Maintaining the certification requires earning continuing professional education (CPE) credits and paying an annual maintenance fee. The CISSP certification is valid for three years, after which it must be renewed.
The CISSP certification is highly valued by employers and is considered a requirement for many senior-level positions in information security.
